Are you devoted to caring for your teeth? Do you do everything you can to keep your smile healthy and strong? Still, you know that even if you care for your smile well, but do you know how to react to a dental emergency?

At Masterpiece Dental, we understand that a dental emergency can be stressful. To help you react calmly if an emergency should strike, we’re happy to discuss how you should respond to unexpected complications.

A few common dental emergencies come from trauma. For instance, if you fall or are hit, your tooth could be knocked loose or dislodged. If this happens, please visit our dentists immediately. In fact, we recommend visiting Dr. Green and Dr. Erekson within 30 minutes if possible. Try to bring the tooth with you, but please don’t handle it by the root. Also, we recommend placing the tooth in milk or keeping it moist with saliva.

Similarly, if you crack or fracture your tooth, you should save whatever pieces you can and visit our dentists quickly. Sometimes, our dentists will be able to rebuild your tooth, but other circumstances may require a crown. Regardless, you should visit our dentists as soon as possible. Conversely, chipping your tooth isn’t typically considered an emergency, but we still recommend visiting us as soon as possible.

Of course, there are other reasons you should visit your dentist quickly—though not necessarily immediately. For example, if you break your braces you won’t be in immediate danger. However, you might scrape your gums, causing annoying sores. Similarly, a broken tooth is another reason you should visit your dentist. Losing your filling could be a sign of tooth decay, which could spread to your other teeth if not addressed.
