When is the last time you flossed your teeth? Many people don’t think about flossing their teeth until something gets stuck between them. But the truth is that flossing removes the food particle, plaque and bacteria between your teeth that you can’t reach by brushing. At a minimum, you should floss at least once a day, and many people choose to floss at night. Whether your brush or floss first really doesn’t matter, you just have to do a thorough job of both.
You need to start with 18 inches of floss. Wrap the majority of it around each middle finger, giving you two to three inches to work with. Grasp it firmly with your thumbs and index fingers. Start flossing at your back teeth, and work your way forward. Curve the floss around each tooth, and floss under, and then away from your gumline. Use a fresh section of floss for each tooth, and don’t reuse floss.
As important as flossing is (and it is) no matter how well you brush and floss, you still need to see your dentist twice a year for your regular cleanings and examinations. If it is time for your routine dental visit, or if you are just looking for a dentist for yourself or your family, our dentist, Dr. Brandon Green would love to see you.
